What are tog ratings ?

A 'tog' is an industry standard name used for measuring the warmth of a duvet, whichever type, synthetic or natural fill. The higher the tog rating or tog value, the warmer the duvet.

Togs are measured in units of thermal resistance. In other words, if a duvet has a tog rating or value of 4.5 then it should be lighter in fill weight and would be more likely be used in the summer months.

At the other end of the scale, a duvet with a tog rating of 13.5 should have more filling, which in most cases makes the duvet heavier and tends to be used in the winter months of the year.

Having said this, duvets which have a natural fill, for example goose down, duck down, Hungarian or Siberian need less fill to attain the tog rate required. This is because natural fill is usually lighter, excluding synthetic Microfibre, than man-made fibres.
